Caserta is a quiet base for exploring Campania. Naples is less than an hour away by train, Pompeii is reached from Naples, and the Amalfi Coast by way of Salerno.

## In brief

- Napoli Centrale by regional train: 38–57 minutes, usually 44–50.
- Pompeii: from Naples on the Circumvesuviana to Pompei Scavi.
- Amalfi Coast: via Salerno, then by bus, or by ferry in the warmer months.
- Coming back to Caserta in the evening costs less, and you sleep away from the traffic.

## Naples

The regional train from Caserta to Napoli Centrale takes between 38 and 57 minutes, usually 44–50. From Napoli Centrale you can reach the historic centre on foot or by metro. For a day in Naples, leave in the morning and come back after dinner: the B&B is 1.6 km from Caserta station and the bus stops right outside.

## Pompeii and Herculaneum

For Pompeii, go to Naples first and take the Circumvesuviana from there to Pompei Scavi station, opposite the entrance to the excavations. Herculaneum (Ercolano) is on the same line. The ruins of Pompeii are very extensive: to see them properly you need most of the day.

## The Amalfi Coast

Coming from Caserta, the gateway to the coast is Salerno: buses leave from there for Amalfi and, in the warmer months, ferries for Amalfi and Positano. If you are driving, check the coast’s traffic rules for the summer months before you go.

## Why come back to Caserta for the night

Naples and the coast are beautiful and crowded. Caserta is a quiet town with the Royal Palace close by: you come back in the evening, park without difficulty and set off again the next day. [Naples airport](https://royalpalacecaserta.it/en/getting-here/) is 25 km away, about half an hour by car.

## From Royal Palace B&B

Our private car park costs €15 a night and must be booked. If you are touring Campania by car, it stays safe here; if you travel by train, you can walk or take the bus to the station.
