What it costs
Under-18s go in free, and children under 12 must be with an adult. Adults pay €18 for the apartments, park and English Garden, or €9 for the park and English Garden only. For EU citizens aged 18 to 24, a ticket costs €2.
On free entry days everyone aged 2 and over needs a ticket, with a time slot.
Getting around the park
The Via d’Acqua (water way) is about three kilometres long, and there and back on foot is a lot for small children. The alternatives:
- Electric shuttle: runs up and down the central axis as far as the Fountain of Diana and Actaeon. €3 return, paid on board, from 9:00.
- Bikes: €5 an hour, €6 for e-bikes. Bikes come in through Corso Giannone, but cannot go into the English Garden.
- Golf buggies: €10 for an hour in the park, €15 for an hour and a half including the English Garden.
Inside the palace
A visit to the Royal Apartments takes about two and a half hours. The Grand Staircase, with its marble lions, is usually what children remember most, along with the rooms where scenes from Star Wars were shot. There is an audio guide made for them, at €4.
A few tips
- You cannot leave and come back in on the same ticket, so set off with water and snacks.
- In winter the park closes early, at 15:30 in November and December: with children, do the park in the morning.
- The palace is closed on Tuesdays.
From Royal Palace B&B
The Comfort Triple Room sleeps up to four, with a double bed and two singles. A cot is free on request; from the age of 3, children pay the adult rate. The park’s Corso Giannone entrance is a short walk from the B&B, and children up to 12 are exempt from the tourist tax.
Frequently asked questions
Do children pay to visit the Royal Palace?
No, entry is free for under-18s. On free entry days, though, children aged 2 and over still need a ticket with a time slot.
Is the park suitable for young children?
Yes, but it is long, about 3 km from the palace to the Grand Cascade. The electric shuttle saves you the walk there and back.
Can children cycle in the park?
Yes, either bringing their own bikes in through Corso Giannone or hiring them in the park. Bikes are not allowed in the English Garden.
